climbing-ice-wallI am convinced that the Lord is more interested in preparing me for something than actually doing something through me. Another way of saying it: The Lord is using me to do things for His kingdom as a means of preparing me to do the next thing (perhaps the BIG assignment). He is more interested in the preparation than the thing I am doing. I’ve recognized this in isolated events, but not as the “general theme” of this season in my life (really, our life). And it occurs to me that this is the big purpose of our whole life on earth – preparation – for the 1000 year rule with Him, as His bride.

So, it actually makes a lot of sense. The truth is the truth, no matter the time period. Each moment, day, season, etc. can be a preparation for the next. Or, it can be wasted. Even worse, it can be detrimental to our preparation for God’s ultimate purpose in our lives.

Some call this detrimental behavior “back-sliding” – a term mountain climbers can understand. I wonder if this has anything to do with having our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15). Does the peace help us stay focused amidst the fears and anxieties that can distract us (cliffs, blizzards and avalanches)? As we progress through God’s assignments in this life, like climbing a mountain, the challenges become greater; but, we need not fear because God has used the previous assignments to prepare us to reach the summit. He also works into us the faith and trust in Him that we need, by showing us He is faithful in doing His part.

Be encouraged, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Keep climbing,

Rob
